Cloudy Bay, the pioneering winery in Marlborough, New Zealand, secures a Silver Gilt medal for its fourth Cloudy Bay Garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2016.
This year’s garden is designed by 27-year-old landscape designer Sam Ovens from Cornwall who is making his debut appearance and is one of the youngest ever to receive this prestigious RHS Chelsea Flower Show medal accolade.
This year’s garden explores the notion of escape, making it the perfect place to retreat to with a glass of wine in hand. It is inspired by Cloudy Bay’s 30-year heritage using nature as a source of its winemaking inspiration.
The layers of complexity that make up the signature Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc wines are alluded to throughout the design which features a timber cabin, boardwalk and deck constructed from western red cedar timber. Overlooking a large pool, its pontoon-like quality provides a sense of setting sail and drifting away. The Marlborough terroir, with its microclimates and diverse soil types are also represented throughout the planting primarily featuring heathers, pines and grasses.
The Cloudy Bay Garden is on show at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2016 from 24 – 28 May 2016. Plot: The Triangle, TR439.
