Michael Rosen will be visiting Cornwall College Camborne on Friday 13May to open an exciting, immersive story-telling adventure inspired by his work. As part of his visit he will be talking to teachers, educationalists and creative practitioners about the importance of creative writing and arts education.

Michael Rosen, most famous for the internationally best-selling children’s poem “Were Going on a Bear Hunt” illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, was born in 1946 in North London. One of the best-known figures in the children’s book world, he is celebrated for his work as a poet, performer, broadcaster and scriptwriter.

“We are delighted that Michael Rosen is opening this wonderful new children’s experience. It’s even more fabulous that during the day he will be sharing his own work and views around education and the arts to over 100 of the county’s teachers. Creative practitioners and educationalists from all over Cornwall are booking tickets for what should be a very inspiring and interesting afternoon” comments Amanda Harris, director of Kernow Education Arts Partnership who are organising the visit.

Bear Hunt, Chocolate Cake and Bad Things, which opens to the public on the 14May, is a magical family experience, based on Michael Rosen’s poetry and life story. Children and families can explore a number of immersive environments that bring to life in 3D the poems We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, Chocolate Cake, The Book of Bad Things, Uncle Gobb and the Dread Shed. The scenery and rooms which are encountered on the Bear Hunt were designed by Discover, The Children’s Story Centre, London, alongside Michael Rosen. The Avalon Theatre at Cornwall College Camborne is the debut location for this touring installation and follows the success of The Wonder World of Oliver Jeffers.

Award winning author Michael Rosen says: “This exhibition is one of the most exciting things to have happened in my writing career. I am someone who has found a way of writing that is often about digging up stuff to do with my past and now it’s a giant exhibition that families and schools will be able to explore. Just as exciting for me, as someone who works with children and students, is the idea that this exhibition will act as a springboard for children, teachers and parents to talk together about things that they remember or think up, and this, I hope, will turn into writing and performing new poems and stories. I am so looking forward to it.”

An Afternoon with Michael Rosen is on 13May 2014 at the Opie Lecture Theatre, Cornwall College, Camborne, Trevenson Road, TR15 3RD. Tickets are £15. To book email

Tickets for Bear Hunt, Chocolate Cake and Bad Things which opens to the public on Saturday 14May can be booked at £5 children, £7 adults and £20 for a family ticket of up to 4 people, which must include at least 1 adult.
