Christmas markets and events happening in Cornwall this year

The Cornwall Macmillan Christmas Fair 2018, Eden Project
7 - 8 November
It’s difficult to think of a more spectacular venue than the Eden Kitchen to host a Christmas market. This year, inside the biome you’ll find a number of stalls selling gifts, decorations, clothes and jewellery. Feeling hungry? A number of local food producers will be on hand with festive treats in the Food Hall. Entry is £10 which includes your ticket to explore the Eden Project.
Father Christmas and his elves will once again be taking up residence at Eden for the season from 24 November until Christmas Day. And the ice rink will be back throughout the winter season with sessions available for various ages and abilities. Pre-booking is strongly recommended.
Porthleven Christmas Market
After a hiatus, the much anticipated Porthleven Christmas Market is back for 2018 and it is set to be more magical than ever before. Expect plenty of tasty festive food, an indoor bar, Christmas music and an array of stalls selling gifts in the harbour this year. The market will open at 10am each day and closes at 5pm. Healeys Cyder Farm Christmas Markets
Every weekend 23 November - 23 December
The markets will showcase stalls of tasty local produce alongside Cornish art and crafts. There’s the opportunity to pick freshly cut Christmas trees and try the range of Healeys Cornish cyders for free in Healeys own farm shop.
More than just markets, the farm offers a full, fun day out for the family. Cyder making tours and tractor rides down to 20 acres of orchards run regularly throughout the day whilst the friendly farm animals, including donkeys, pigs, goats, ponies and shire horses are a favourite for little ones to meet. Each Sunday afternoon, with a famous Healeys Sunday roast, local choirs will fill The Old Bottlery with the sounds of Cornish carols.
Charlestown Christmas Market
There will be events happening at the harbour all weekend. Santa’s Grotto can be found aboard the tall ship, The Kajsmoor where children can listen to Father Christmas read a story and they will receive a gift. Roslyn Buses are supplying double-decker buses to get people to the market from various parts of St Austell, and another service will run up and down the hill from Penrice Academy down to the harbour. Businesses in Charlestown will be offering special offers and discounts during the Christmas Market weekend.
Hot food and drinks will be available from mobile caterers at the Market at Penrice Academy, as well as from the cafe inside. Various charities will be benefitting from the weekend, including Cornwall Hospice Care who will be stewarding the car parking, and providing the official programme.
The market will be open between the hours of 11am to 4pm.
Hayle Christmas Market
24 – 25 November
Taking place on South Quay, this year’s Christmas market will have market stalls selling Cornish homemade gifts and crafts, mulled wine, roast turkey baps and much more. The market will be open 9am – 4.30pm on both days. Visit their Facebook page for more information.
Bedruthan’s Christmas Fair
24 – 25 November
Bedruthan Hotel’s Christmas Fair is back this November with a wide variety of stalls, stunning views and some festive magic. Visitors will have the opportunity to browse more than 50 stalls over three floors of contemporary crafts, jewellery, fashion, beauty, homewares, food and drink, festive decorations and much more.There will also be the opportunity to try a new skill with their drop-in creative workshops. Learn how to make a willow Christmas tree decorations, mini crepe paper wreaths or drop in on Sarah Drew Jewellery’s bling ring workshop to add some sparkle to any festive outfit.
Throughout the fair, there will be the chance to win a bundle of beautiful prizes from the fair’s exhibitors worth over £500 - including laser etched enamel mug and a framed print from Jago Illustrations, a yak wool wrap from Blossom Clothing Cornwall, a gin flight from Mother’s Ruin 1751 and much more! Look out for the competition at the entrance to the fair to enter.
Workshops are available at any time during the fair and cost £5 each including all the materials. Drop-in childcare and face painting will also be available throughout the fair, subject to availability, and will be by donation. Tickets to the fair are £1.50 and can be bought on the door.
Penzance Lights and Christmas Market
This year, Penzance will be illuminated with festive sparkle as we go to town with the theme ‘Christmas Bells’. Landmarks like Market House and St Mary’s Church will join local shops and businesses as they light up for the season.
The festivities kick off on 25 November with Penzance’s Christmas market, the Christmas market will run from 10am until 5.30pm with a variety of stalls from Arts and Crafts to Food. Market Jew Street will also host a Youth Market from Pop Up Penzance with stalls showcasing a range of Cornwall’s best arts & crafts and food. Visitors can get into the festive spirit at the Christmas grotto or with musical performances put on throughout the day before the annual light-switch on commences at 4.30pm. Watch as the town becomes illuminated with colour and festive cheer.
Trelissick Christmas Craft Fair
With the piano in the drawing room playing Christmas carols, a log fire crackling in the impressive fireplaces and the opportunity for tea and cake, Trelissick is a lovely place to get in the Christmas spirit. The annual craft fair is the perfect opportunity to pick up a handmade gift made by the Trelissick staff and volunteers. The fair is open 10.30am until 4.30pm.
Don’t miss Trelissick’s winding pathways illuminated with Christmas lights, an audience with Father Christmas in the stables and reindeer flying into the yard. Dates and times can be found on the Trelissick website.
Made in Cornwall Christmas Market, Truro
28 November – 2 December
The market will be held at Truro’s Lemon Quay Piazza and over 90 traders will be attending. From candles and pottery, to clothes, chocolates and ale, all products sold at the fair are 100% Made in Cornwall. Visit their Facebook page for opening times and tickets.
Fowey Christmas Market
30 November – 2 December
The exact schedule is yet to be confirmed but last year’s line-up included a lantern parade, Christmas light switch-on, mulled wine, hog roasts and an array of craft stalls to explore. The market will open 5.30 – 8.30pm on Friday, 10am – 5.30pm on Saturday and 10am – 4pm on Sunday.
Santa by Steam at Bodmin & Wenford Railway
1- 24 December
All aboard for a steam train ride on the lovely Bodmin and Wenford Railway and the chance to visit Santa in his grotto during your journey. Children get a present from Santa and there are mince pies and seasonal refreshments for the adults. The trip lasts an hour and there will be carols on the platform by Liskeard Band.
A Victorian Christmas at Lanhydrock
1- 24 December
See the past come alive at Lanhydrock this Christmas, as the Victorian household prepares for the Agar-Robartes family’s Christmas dinner with family and friends. Learn about the traditions the Victorians loved, such as decorating homes with greenery and singing carols, decorating the tree and sending Christmas cards. Father Christmas is at Lanhydrock with pre-booking essential.
Etsy Made Local Christmas Fair and Super Saturday in St Ives
30 November - 2 December
A team of local Etsy sellers will cover more than 40 stalls in the Guildhall from Friday 30 November until Sunday 2 December with lots of wonderfully handmade gifts and products to buy. Friday night will have live music and cocktails. Entry to the fair is free.
Festive magic in St Ives begins when Father Christmas arrives in the harbour on 1 December via boat to greet children at the Winter Wonderland Grotto. The centre of town will be closed to traffic to allow shoppers free reign of St Ives and there will also be a light switch-on and lantern parade.
Flambards Christmas Craft Fayre, Helston
Explore a number of stalls selling a selection of festive gifts and treats whilst listening to live Christmas carols and songs performed by the Helston Town Band, Santa will be on hand all weekend for meet and greets and entrance to the fayre is just £1 per person. The event will be open 10am – 4pm, Saturday and Sunday.
Padstow Christmas Festival
With a number of demonstrations from top local chefs (including Rick Stein, Nathan Outlaw and Paul Ainsworth) and a range of stalls selling food and drink treats, this year’s Padstow Christmas Festival is not to be missed. You can find the full list of sellers on the festival’s website.
The Santa Fun Run & Cycle will also return to Padstow on Saturday 8 December, when Santas run or cycle the camel trail from Wadebridge all in the name of charity.
Mount Edgcumbe Christmas Fayre
Beautiful Mount Edgcumbe, on the Rame Peninsula near Millbrook, celebrates Christmas in style with a two-day fayre on Saturday and Sunday. There is plenty for all the family including Christmas cookery demonstrations from leading Westcountry chefs, stalls with local produce, crafts and gifts, entertainment and carols.

Mousehole Harbour Lights
Held in the entrance to the North Quay, there will be plenty of Christmas carols from the Mousehole Male Voice Choir, Members of the Methodist Church and music from the Pendenn Silver Band. The lights will be switched on by Reverand Julyan Drew. The event will start at 6.30pm.
