PARADISE PARK

There is so much to do here for the whole family: see the birds in their aviaries, including many varieties of parrot and the Cornish chough, colourful flamingos and penguins; watch the free flying shows with birds of prey and owls; meet rabbits, guinea pigs, mini donkeys and pygmy goats at the fun farm; have a ride on the Jungle Express Train; and enjoy the refreshments at the Otter Pool Café, whilst the cheeky otters play just outside the window. This year there’s a new attraction at the park – a Dinosaur Quiz Trail which encourages you to go on your own dinosaur expedition around the grounds.

When: Every day from 10am

Where: Paradise Park, Hayle

DISCOVER ANCIENT PENWITH

It’s difficult to go far in West Cornwall without coming across remains of ancient history: there are standing stones, stone circles, holy wells, Celtic crosses, quoits, tombs, hill forts and fogous everywhere. Look at a map and see how many there are. Some, such as Chysauster Village, Carn Euny and Tregiffian Burial Chamber, are looked after by English Heritage, many have information plaques, and all are a fascinating journey into the distant past.

When: All year
