Risper Saituni, the Kenyan lady pastor who gave birth to the vision for a school near Oyugis in Kenya, had just returned to her home village from extensive ministry work in Nairobi. She knew that the poorest and most vulnerable children were being deprived of basic education because of the lack of schools and the poverty in the region. So, rather than sitting and moaning or complaining, she decided to do what little she could to start her own school.
She sold everything she had to buy the land which is in a prominent position at the top of a hill in the Ringa district of Kenya, about half an hours walk from main road, deep in the forest, which is the catchment area of the school.
Children walk up to 5 km to reach the school. Truancy is unheard of. They are not dropped off by a 4x4; they get there any way they can. They value their education highly and often sing of the qualities and the necessity of education. They realise that its their only hope out of the poverty trap into which they have been born.

The school started in 2007 with just 6 orphans and one volunteer teacher in a mud hut that fell down. Today there are 276 children, 43 of whom are orphans, 12 teachers and 7 ancillary staff. HIV/AIDS and malaria are the major reasons for the increasing number of orphans.
Chris Hirst, a builder from Polperro, facilitated the project from the beginning. In 2009 he made a presentation at a local Liskeard church, showing a video of the primitive school and such happy, fulfilled children. Philips heart leapt. Philip is the owner and the senior practitioner of Legacy Legal Services. He successfully registered the work as a charity and has been fundraising since, visiting Kenya each year in the Spring.
On Saturday 15thSeptember 2012, Philip, along with 6 others, undertook a sponsored sky dive from Perranporth airfield to raise funds toward the building of a secondary school and laboratory. Not a small feat for a 61-year old!
