Cornwall's Pandora Inn has been named winner of the Best Wine Pub/Bar for the South West region in the Great British Pub Awards 2014

The Pandora Inn has been named winner of the Best Wine Pub/Bar for the South West region in the Great British Pub Awards 2014.

Voted Top Gastropub in the Cornwall Life Food and Drink Award 2013, the inn has now been chosen as the best in the South West.

Steve Bellman, who runs the Pandora with John Milan, is passionate about wine. He has worked closely with Ruth Carter, wine development manager with wine merchant Walter Hicks, to expand the pub’s wine list to include a range of wines from across the globe, with something to suit every palate and pocket.

The Pandora Inn, on the banks of Restronguet Creek at Mylor Bridge, is an award-winning pub renowned for its food. “Good food needs good wine to accompany it,” said Steve. “So we have put a great deal of time and effort into researching and developing our wine list, and it is great to see it recognised with this award.”

The awards are organised by leading pub industry magazine, the Publican’s Morning Advertiser. Its editor Rob Willock says:”The award recognises pubs that have best promoted and driven sales of wine in the past year. The judges were really impressed with the range and quality of wines served at the pub and marketing ideas for driving wine sales.”

The Pandora Inn’s wine list features 17 wines by the glass and offers a choice of 62 wines. It features wines from Devon and Cornwall and also identifies green wines’ – those that meet organic requirements.

The wine list is also available in large print and Braille formats and the daily specials board highlights a wine of the month and special wine offers. The list also includes guidelines on responsible drinking.

The Pandora will now go forward to the Great British Pub Awards 2014 national final in London on 11 September.

It will go head to head with five other regional winners for the UK title Best Wine Pub/Bar 2014’ and also have the opportunity to compete for the overall champion of champions title of Great British Pub of the Year 2014.’
