The small bars that pack a big punch, Cornwall’s new Get Fruity should be at the top of your shopping list

The small bars that pack a big punch, Cornwall’s new Get Fruity should be at the top of your shopping list, writes Alexandra Hurley

Growing up on a farm in Cornwall, Davina Whiteoak has many happy memories of learning to cook with her mum and seven siblings, two of which are now successful chefs. Cornwall gave me the freedom to dream, which gave me the confidence to push forward and start my own company,’ says Davina. Get Fruity has since grown from recipe testing in Davina’s farmhouse kitchen to selling all over the UK and as far as the Middle East. Handmade in Roche, just three miles from where Davina grew up, Get Fruity bars are 100% natural with no added refined sugars, gluten free, vegan and a great source of fibre. We only use fruit to add sweetness to our bars, they contain virgin coconut oil which makes them moist and they are also baked which helps give them a homemade feel,’ Davina explains.

Biting into the apricot, orange and ginger bar, I am immediately reminded of a fragrant Christmas pudding. It is wonderfully tasty, packed full of flavour and with a tangy citrus zing from the orange juice. The bar feels substantial – thanks to the fibrous gluten-free oats – leaving me feeling fuller for longer, and they are a good source of Vitamin B, the vitamin which helps the body convert food to energy.

Before I’ve even tasted the strawberry bar, the sweet aroma informs me I’m in for a super strawberry taste-sensation, and I am not disappointed. The mixed berry bar is a delightful combination of sweet and tart, and leaves a rich, fruity taste long after I have taken my last bite. The great thing about these bars is that they can be enjoyed on the go, as a lunchbox extra or an after-dinner bite to satisfy that sweet craving. And with an entirely natural ingredient list, you can be confident in the knowledge that what you are fuelling your body with a whole load of natural goodness.
