Caerhays Castle and Gardens is home to a National Magnolia Collection with over 50 species and more than 450 named hybrids of Magnolia.

An next month Charles Williams of Caerhays Castle and Gardens will be hosting an RHS recommended lecture at Caerhays on covering the importance of having a National Collection and also why Magnolias suit many different types of garden.

The lecture will detail:

· The very rare Magnolia nitida

· The newly named Magnolia 'FJ Williams' (sargentia robusta x diva)

· The extraordinary Magnolia 'Yuchelia' (Magnolia cross Michelia)

The lecture will also include a tour of the garden and provide a 'behind the bushes' walk. The walk will encompass the new 10 acre Magnolia planting in a greenfield site at the top of the garden (known as Kennel Close) opened to the public for the first time in 2012. The lecture will take place from 10am, and will finish at approx. 1pm.

Attendees will need to bring wet weather clothes and boots. Parking will be available in the main Caerhays car park at the castle itself, rather than in the in public car park at Porthluney Beach.

Coffee and biscuits will be served at 9.30 am and the lecture will take place around the gardens so some of the areas are not suitable for disabled access, but most of the tour is accessible.

Ticket Prices: RHS Members - £16 / non-members - £20. Lunch is not included in the price but refreshments are available in the Magnolia tea rooms in the inner courtyard of the castle.
