Gateway Tile & Slate Centre first opened for business in Launceston in 1982, and 28 years later, the success story continues.

When Gateway originally started, it was only intended to be a local independent Tile Centre, run by husband and wife team, Martyn & Linda Knight. With previous experience in the tile and flooring trade, they were able to source products not seen before in the South West, and quickly gained a reputation for being able to supply fashionable and unusual tiles, as well as the more widely available material.

Gateway is an independent company able to keep up with current fashion trends.

The showrooms at the entrance to Newport Industrial Estate may be hidden away, but are well worth seeking out, housed as it is, in an old mill building on the bank of the river Kensey. With the emphasis on quality, style and prices, the reputation of Gateway started to grow very quickly, to the current position, where they keep massive stocks and supply to over 30 independent tile centres.

Wall tiles, floor tiles, natural stone and slate, modern tiles, traditional tiles, factory produced and handmade tiles, inexpensive tiles and genuine special offers, to quirky unique tiles with their own exclusive price tag. A full range of adhesives for every situation, grouts in a range of colours, all the accessories and tools you will ever need, plus bathrooms and accessories, wetrooms, underfloor heating systems etc. We have the staff to advise and help with any queries you may have, all under one roof.

With the housing market as it is, now is undoubtedly a good time to sit back, look at your home, and consider improving instead of moving.

The bathroom and kitchen have a dramatic effect on the perceived and real value of a home and these are the rooms where tiles are used the most. Renewing the tiling can revive the look of a dated bathroom or bring a slightly over the hill kitchen up to date. Investing in tiles is investing in the future. If well fixed, tiles can last a lifetime and can still look good after years of service.

Undertile heating frees up valuable wall space and delivers real luxury at a surprisingly small price tag. Tiled floors are hygienic, convenient, comfortable and allow you to update your colour scheme at the throw of a rug. Consider using the same floor tile throughout the ground floor of your home to give a feeling of spaciousness. Go for the latest porcelain, natural stone look-alikes in trendy pale beige or cream. They provide a neutral background to the rest of your decor and are extremely robust and hard wearing.

Independent businesses can offer particularly good deals and great value for money, often contrary to public opinion, backed up by a wealth of experience and good service.

To see the latest in tile trends and get advice on which tile to use where, what adhesive and grout to use and how to ensure your shower area is waterproof, pay a visit to Gateway Tile & Slate Ltd and see what they can offer you. Take the time to discuss your ideas and aspirations with their staff, and make 2010 the year you add value to your home.
