The Spring Art Fair
Monday, April 21, 2014
Exhibiting artists include Gordon Hunt, Jenny Shaw-Browne and nonagenarian Mollie Silver who all submitted work that was accepted.
Guest artist will be internationally renowned Paul Wadsworth whose work will be hanging at the event.
“We had submissions from 41 artists and have selected the work of 27,” says Janet Judge, chair of Lizard Art. “The main thing that has struck me is the incredibly high standard of work submitted. The work is of a standard to match any commercial gallery with many artists who regularly exhibit and sell their work in top galleries.
“Locations ranged from Penzance to St Austell, including work from Truro, St Ives, Redruth, Hayle, Mylor Bridge, Fowey, Mawnan Smith, Helston and across the Lizard.
“There is hopefully something to suit every taste and budget. We have one artist who paints on glass and one metal worker who makes wall hung shoals of Mackerel. We have a geologist who paints abstract representations of Cornish rock textures and local mineralisation. She says she usually gives the rock sample with the painting when it is sold!”
Prices range from £25 for a small framed woodcut to £895 for a large oil painting. The majority of work falls in the £100 to £250 range.
There is traditional and contemporary work in all media: oils, acrylic, watercolour, collage, woodcut and mixed media. Land and seascapes, abstract, figurative work and still life.
The Spring Art Fair at Trellowarren runs from 11am to 4pm every day between April 6 and 25 April. Also on the estate is The New Yard Restaurant, Cornwall Crafts Gallery and the estate walks will be open allowing visitors to make a full day of their visit.
