Wheal Martyn Garden Opera
Wheal Martyn Museum and Country Park, near St. Austell will play host to fantastic and vibrant Garden Opera this summer performed by the fabulous Garden Opera Company. Wheal Martyn Martyn is home to the UKs only China Clay mining Museum, set within 26 acres of nature and woodland walks on the site of two former clay works, the museum tells the story of Cornwalls important billon pound China Clay industry and the lives of those who lived and worked in the shadows of the white pyramids. On Saturday 23 July the performance of Verdi's La Traviata promises to bring to life the former Victorian clay works for a lively and memorable evening.
The Garden Opera is set to be the highlight of our 2011 events programme designed to help raise funds towards the museum charity to help it with its work of safeguarding the heritage of Cornwalls China Clay Industry for us all. As a charity the museum aims to provide access to the industrial and social heritage of the area as well as deliver projects based around the preservation of artefacts, education and conservation of the Scheduled Ancient Monument which comprises much of the site.
As a charity we rely on fundraising to help us deliver our work so please support this wonderfully unique museum and be part of something special this summer. For more information or to book please visit www.whealmartyn.com or call Verlaine Jane on 01726 850362.
