It’s all aboard at Wildflower Cottage in Rose when their garden opens for on Sunday 12June, with a steam railway linking the entire garden and woodland attractions, and a walk-through aviary.

Three trains will be running on the day taking visitors on the quarter mile track through the lush gardens and woodland, while the 55ft by 20ft walk-through aviary has seating and houses ornamental ducks and free flying birds.

A walk winds through the woodland area and wild ducks can often be found in the large pond. A waterfall links a further seven small ponds down to the house, the perfect home for wildlife.

There is an interesting cob house and tropical planting at the front of the house. In fact despite the garden being less than two acres in size there is an awful lot to see. The garden will be open from 2pm to 5pm and refreshments will be available. Entrance is £4 for adults with under-16s free. A donation towards the cost of the train will be welcomed.

This is the first time Wildflower Cottage has opened for the Trust and is one of six new gardens, along with regulars, where special fundraising days are being held during 2016 for Cornwall Wildlife Trust, raising funds which are vital for Cornwall’s leading local wildlife charity in protecting the county’s wildlife and wild places.

Chris Betty, Communications Officer for Cornwall Wildlife Trust says,

“A train ride through a garden will be great fun for all the family, and the aviary is a special treat for bird lovers. There is plenty of wildlife to be found in this garden and we are delighted that they have chosen to open for us this year.”

This is the sixth year running that the Trust has run their highly successful Open Gardens event. More details of the Wildflower Cottage event and all the other gardens opening this year can be found at
