Some of the best horticulturists in the land will be providing a wealth of colour and variety within the flower show at this year’s Royal Cornwall Show (9-11th June).
A reputation as one of the best flower shows in the region, it’s one of the main attractions at Cornwall’s biggest annual event.
The number of trade exhibitors heading to Wadebridge is up this year, says flower show chairman, Kenneth Willcock.
“We have an extra eight trade exhibitors participating this year from around the region, some who are making their first appearance, some are returning after an absence of a few years.
“We’ll have another good year with very high quality exhibits for visitors to enjoy.”
The trade competitors provide the large scale, wow factor exhibits that are at the heart of the show.
Highlighting the standard to expect are the five award winning exhibitors from this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show who will be competing at the Royal Cornwall.
Cornish-based Penberth Plants (St Buryan), Burncoose Nurseries (Gwennap, near Redruth) and Kelnan Plants (Gulval, nr Penzance) will be joined by Hewitt-Cooper Carnivorous Plants and Mendip Bonsai Studio from Somerset who all won Gold medals at Chelsea.
There’s a lot more on offer besides the displays created by the professionals.
Numbers have increased hugely within all of the competitive elements this year and Kenneth and his team of stewards have their work cut out to fit everything in the flower show’s huge pavilion.
“We’ve received over 1000 entries in the numerous floral art, competitive and junior classes,” he said.
“This is an increase of around a third in the number of entries compared to last year, so it is a very good problem for us to have.”
The flower show also boasts a demonstration theatre that run from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm daily, with hour-long sessions on themes ranging from bees and floral art to gardeners’ questions.
