The 2014 Garden open days have been announced by Pentillie Castle and estate
This year visitors will have the opportunity to explore more of the Pentillie grounds, including the woodlands and paths that have been cleared of rhododendron and laurel; the restored kitchen gardens and revamped greenhouses; and a chance to explore the restored Mausoleum – nominated for a 2013 Angel award – where the body of Sir James Tillie was recently discovered in a hidden vault.
The first Garden open day will be on Sunday 30th March when the grounds will be open from 11am – 4pm. Following this the grounds will open on Easter Monday and on Monday 5 May from 2pm to 5pm on both days. Refreshments will be available in the castle and guests are reminded to wear suitable sturdy footwear. Dogs are welcome on leads. Entry is £6 per person (children under 12 free). No booking required.
Pentillie Garden Tours will also return in 2014, taking place on the first Thursday of each month, from April until September. Visitors will be shown around the Pentillie estate learning about the history of the castle and gardens as well as the restoration work of the Mausoleum. Tickets are £15 per person. Tours begin at 2pm and include afternoon tea in the castle. To book please call 01579 350044.
Meanwhile ‘Friends of Pentillie’ can enjoy access to the grounds on the 1st Sunday of each month, plus half price entry on garden open days and access to exclusive opportunities throughout the year. Membership £12 annually.
