Who will represent Cornwall in the Celtavision song contest in Ireland in 2017? That’s the question that will be answered on January 20th, at the annual Kan rag Kernow competition to be held at the Penventon Hotel, Redruth at 8pm.

Cornwall Pan Celtic Committee Chairman Dave Crewes said: Cornwall has met with success several times in the international competition, winning more times than any other nation since 2000. The 2015 Cornish representatives, Looe-based The Changing Room, not only won the Celtivision but went on to also win two other trophies at the festival including best band!’

Songs entered have to be sung in the Cornish language and the Cornish Committee are grateful to the Cornish Language Office at Cornwall Council who have arranged the translation of songs this year.

The shortlisted bands for this year are Tom Reilly and the Swaggers, who represented Cornwall in 2016 and came a very creditable second in Ireland, the Aggie Boys, who won the Kan rag Kernow in 2014 and also came second in Ireland and The Grenaways, a band increasingly making a name for themselves in Cornwall.

In addition to the competition, there will be music from fiddle duo Salt and Sky and maybe a bit of a shout to finish!

Tickets for the evening are on sale in advance through Eventbrite or by contacting the organisers on 07533 723539 at £6 and on the door at £8. Come and support the bands competing!
