SPRING FESTIVAL FALMOUTH

St Piran’s Day

March marks the day of Cornwall’s patron St Piran and there will be a host of events happening throughout the county to celebrate the giant’s arrival in Cornwall where he taught the locals how to mine for tin.

Falmouth St Piran’s Day Parade: A Furry Dance by local school children and musicians and procession.

Bodmin, St Piran’s Day Parade: celebrations commence with a parade down through the town to the Mount followed by singing and dancing.

Redruth, St Piran’s Day Festival: first held in 2011 the festival celebrates the history of the town’s importance in the tin industry and to showcase the Cornish culture.

Perranporth, St Piran’s Play: meet at Piran Point (TR6 0AQ) for the Grand Procession to St Piran’s Oratory and Church. The play produced by the St Piran Trust, takes place in Perranporth, where according to legend the revered saint was washed up on millstone from Ireland in the 5th century. Crossing the dunes to St Piran’s Cross, hundreds of people gather, generally dressed in black, white and gold, the colours of Cornwall, carrying the Cornish flag.

Falmouth Spring Festival

Celebrate Falmouth’s open spaces, terrific coastline and gardens with this wonderful early season festival bringing together the Falmouth community like no other. The festival brings an explosion of colour, life and activity to the town.

World Pasty Championships at Eden

The Eden Project’s World Pasty Championships celebrate the traditional Cornish pasty recipe, as well as some more unusual varieties. From the Americas to Australia, pasties derived from recipes passed down by Cornish emigrants over centuries are eaten and enjoyed by many millions of people. Entries from around the world are invited to take part in the Championships.

The Truro Festival

Brimming with artistic spirit, this family festival promises to entertain, entice and excite. From cartoon and printmaking workshops to cultural seminars, live music and women-only events, the festival on Lemon Quay is in abundance of spirit.

Oyster Gathering & Cornish Produce Festival

The first gathering’ in Cornwall’s food festival calendar is also the celebration of the end of the Fal Oyster fishing season, hosted on Custom House Quay, Falmouth.

The Cornish Arms Beer and Mussel festival

More than 30 different beers and ciders, delicious mussel dishes, cookery demonstrations by Jack Stein and talks from St. Austell Brewery, plus live entertainment.
