Cheryl Ward has been a familiar face to generations of children attending Roche CP School. Over the years she has also worked as a lunchtime assistant, teaching assistant and cleaner.
On her last day, the school organised a special assembly for Cheryl and presented her with gifts and flowers, as well as cards which had been made by the children. In return Cheryl donated a trophy to the school which has been named the ‘Kindness Cup’ and will be presented each year to the pupil who most helps others and makes them smile. She also donated a bench for the school’s playground.
Cheryl said; “I’ve enjoyed doing the job, my heart tells me not to leave but my head says I’m doing the right thing. It’s a job I’ve loved doing over the years.”
Jeremy Walden, Headteacher of Roche CP School, said; “It’s only when no one is there that you realise how essential a patrol is. Cheryl has been an important member of the community helping generations of people in the area to safely cross on their way to and from the school.”
