EDEN VOTED TOP UK ATTRACTION AT NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELLER AWARDS

The Eden Project was honoured on Tuesday November 29 as UK Attraction of the Year in the National Geographic Traveller Reader Awards in London.
Winners were voted for by readers of National Geographic Traveller magazine and were announced in a ceremony at Le Méridien, Piccadilly.
Eden, home of the famous Biomes in Cornwall, faced tough competition from fellow award nominees British Museum and Edinburgh Castle.
Following last night’s award, Eden Managing Director Gordon Seabright said: “To be voted UK Attraction of the Year by readers of such a highly-regarded magazine is a tremendous honour, made even greater by the standards of the other contenders. We send our warmest thanks to those who voted for us and our congratulations to all the other winners and nominees.”
The awards were hosted by Kiran Jethwa, Channel 4’s The Fearless Chef, the global gastronaut' who travels the world in search of the most extreme ways to procure food. The awards will be featured in the January/February issue of National Geographic Traveller (UK).
David Rowe, Head of Media Relations at Eden, collected the winner’s trophy on behalf of the Project.
Among other awards winners were Grand Canyon, USA (Overseas Attraction) and New York (Long-Haul City). Best Travel Book was won by The Road to Little Dribbling by Bill Bryson. Michael Palin received an award for Outstanding Contribution to Travel and the TV Programme winner was Great Barrier Reef with David Attenborough.
The award to Eden makes it a notable double. Last year Eden won the Green category at the first-ever National Geographic Traveller Reader Awards.
The UK edition of National Geographic Traveller was launched in December 2010, joining a worldwide family under the National Geographic Traveller brand that makes up one of the most widely read magazines in the world.
The UK edition became the 15th international edition to join the family which has already reached over 21 countries and continues the theme of All Travel, All the Time.
